Which one should I use?
- EPF calculator — estimates your provident fund balance. You pay 12% of basic pay plus DA. Your employer also pays 12%, but 8.33% of wages goes to the EPS pension. The wage ceiling for this rose from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 a month from 17 September 2026, so at most ₹2,083 a month (EPFO is still notifying the details). If you joined on or after 1 September 2014 with basic above the ceiling, there is no EPS share and the full 12% goes to EPF. The rest goes to your EPF. Interest for FY 2025-26 is 8.25% a year.
- Gratuity calculator — works out the lump sum your employer pays when you leave: 15/26 times your last monthly basic pay plus DA, times your years of service. More than six months in the last year counts as a full year.
- 8th Pay Commission calculator — for central government staff: multiplies your 7th CPC basic pay by a fitment factor you choose. No factor is official yet, so it is a projection only.
EPF and gratuity: what they are and when they are paid
EPF (Employees' Provident Fund) is a retirement savings account. Money goes in every month: 12% of your basic pay plus DA from you, and the EPF part of your employer's 12%. Interest is worked out each month on the running balance and credited to your account once a year.
Gratuity is different. Your employer pays it once, as a lump sum, when you leave the job. It usually needs five years of continuous service. Under the Labour Codes in force from 21 November 2025, fixed-term employees qualify after one year.
Use the EPF calculator to plan for retirement. Use the gratuity calculator when you are changing jobs or checking a full-and-final settlement.
Both use your basic pay plus DA, not your full CTC, so keep your payslip handy. Paying rent too? The HRA exemption calculator in the tax section shows how much of your house rent allowance is tax-free under the old regime.
